I trust all of you made the sacrifice of waking up in the wee hours of the morning to watch the Royal Wedding live on television this Friday... or maybe if you're like me, you just didn't sleep at all! I'm a sucker for royalty and rags-to-riches stories. The marriage of Kate Middleton and Prince William is comprised of everything a little girl dreams of: meeting a handsome prince who sweeps you off of your feet, proposes to you with his mother's famous engagement ring, and rides off with you in a horse-drawn carriage. ahhhhhhh...... Prince Harry, I'M STILL SINGLE!!

5. Understated flowers only accentuates the beauty of the woman holding them:

Kate's bouquet was comprised of lilly-of-the-valley, sweet William (how appropriate), hyacinth, ivy, and myrtle.

4. Look like yourself! Don't wear more makeup or wear your hair bigger than usual. The most beautiful brides are the ones who appear effortless:

My biggest surprise of the wedding: Kate did her own makeup! She looked so beautiful and very much herself with her natural makeup and flowing hair.

3. Like makeup, your jewelry shouldn't be overwhelming. If your earrings, necklace, etc. is the only thing you see in the mirror, take it off. Your smile is always more important than diamonds or pearls:

The Queen allowed Kate to wear the Carteir "halo" tiera which was presented to Elizabeth by her father on her 18th birthday. Kate also wore diamond-drop earrings by Robinson Pelham, given to her by her parents. The earrings were inspired by the Middleton's new family crest.

2. When looking for a dress, make sure it accentuates your best assets. Less is more; showing skin isn't the only way to be sexy, and a lot of embellishment takes the eye off of the bride. Keep it sweet and simple:

What does everyone look forward to most at a royal wedding? The dress, of course! Kate wore a beautiful dress made by Sarah Burton, the new head designer for Alexander McQueen. It has a sweetheart neckline corseted bodice with a v-neck, long sleeve lace overlay and satin bell skirt. It has a striking resemblance to Grace Kelly's wedding dress, my personal favorite.

1. Above all, remember that the amount of money spent on your wedding doesn't make it royal; you're only a princess if you feel like one. So find a dress that makes you feel beautiful, look into your prince's eyes, and know that you have finally found your fairytale happy ending. You are riding off into the sunset with HIM, not the photographer, not the cake, and not your bouquet. A wedding can be royal, but marriage is worth nothing without a man who treats you like a queen.

In honor of Easter and Earth Day, I'm dedicating this post to fuzing these two different holidays into a wedding trend.... here goes!

Easter is all about Spring. Spring is all about enjoying the Earth in all its splendor. So Easter and Earth Day have a natural connection, right? Well in the world of OLIVE, they do. Here are three easy tips to create a beautiful Easter/Earth Day wedding:

1. Give your guests the gift of GREEN by giving them each a tree seedling, flower bulbs, or seeds of any kind for them to plant and grow on their own. As they watch their colorful plant grow, they will be reminded of the beauty and growth of your marriage.

2. Decorate with eggs! Another one of those great ideas you should have thought of yourself, right? Not only are eggs so "in" right now, but they are also inexpensive, do-it-yourself friendly, and earth friendly! Here are a couple ways to use eggs in your decorations:

This post, I'm going to give you some great ideas for ways to reuse things FOR your wedding and how to reuse things FROM your wedding. Here goes!

Invited to a wedding and hate to just throw away the beautiful invitation? This is a GREAT wedding gift idea! Turn the invitation into a piece of art. I got this idea from my parents, who have some special wedding invitations they received as gifts after their special day.

The invitation on the left was framed by a friend who added pressed flowers into the frame. The invitation on the right was hand-painted by one of my mom's friends. These are both special to her and are currently in my parent's bedroom.

Donate your flowers. This is a great way to give back and make someone sick or lonely smile. Remember all those beautiful flowers you spent top-dollar for? well, after the big day, they are sometime forgotten about. Instead of just throwing them away, donate them to the church for Sunday's service, and then take all the smaller arrangements to a nursing home or hospital to be given to patients or lonely residents.

Not as sentimental as me? I'm one of those sentimental freaks who saves EVERYTHING thinking "one day, ill look back on this and have so many wonderful memories" or "one day, ill want to use this again". If you are thinking of me in disgust right now, then maybe you should be one of the loving, giving brides who gives her bridal gown away. Ever thought of it? I mean, what are you really going to do with it later anyway? Try it on 30 years down the road and reminisce about how skinny you used to be? So why not? There are many charities such as Brides Against Breast Cancer, Women's Dresses, and the I Do Foundation that will take you dress and give it to a Bride in need. A new trend has hit hard in the wedding world: skin, blush, champagne, & pink tones. I'm not a big "trend" person, I like to do my own thing.... but despite its popularity, this trend has won me over. Nothing says "romantic vintage" better than these colors! Here are some good ideas to help get those creative juices flowing:

for the BRIDE: go for a femenine, vintage, romantic look with a wedding dress that isn't white! I know the concept is a little foreign, but the Olive bride like to branch out and try new things... so why not? Go for something vintage and flirty like the short dress on the right, or maybe something a little more subtle and romantic like the cream dress on the left.

For the BRIDESMAIDS: These beautiful attending ladies have been known to wear pink for decades... so why stop now? Forget the cotton candy, bubble gum pink and let your girls wear a little more sophisticated color like champagne or blush rose

For the FLOWERS: light, simple colors are always safe, easy, and beautiful for flowers. This look will never get old, they will make your pictures look fresh and airy:

Hey there! The theme for this week's post is to "reduce". What does it mean to reduce? Well, according to dictionary.com, the definition to reduce means "to lower in degree, intensity, etc.". I know what you are thinking, "there is no way I am going to decrease my wedding!" All brides hope that their wedding will be the one that no one will forget, the one that people look to when they are planning their own weddings. But trust me, letting back a little bit in certain areas can be a very good thing! Here are a couple ideas that will help you reduce the amount of money and time spent and even the waste created from your wedding day:

Use chalk boards for everything! From directing guests where to go, to cute props for engagement pictures or for guest-book pictures, Chalkboards are a great way to reduce the amount of waste made by signs, nametags, or props that might be thrown away later. After the wedding, hang the chalkboard in your new kitchen!

Have an outdoor wedding. If the weather is good, it is a great way to save money on a church or venue. My personal dream is to get married in the front yard of my grandmother's southern Georgia home.

Make your own cake. Unless you are a complete failure at baking, this can be a great place to reduce the wedding budget. I have added a few examples so you can see that a homemade cake can look casual, crafty, or just darn cute! (plus, homemade icing always tastes better)

Pick your own flowers and make your flower arrangements. I think all brides can agree that hiring a good florist can be one of the most expensive parts of planning a wedding. If you live near a rural area, go on a flower hunt with your bridesmaids! Search for pretty wild lavender, queen anne's lace, and daisies; pick some hydrangeas from your neighbor's front yard (with permission, of course), and pull some green leaves off of that vine in the church parking lot. Even wheat and cotton are beautiful additions to organic-looking arrangements.

Set a day or two apart for crafty fun with the girls. Make cool place cards, banners, trim for the porch or tables, the "just married" sign to go on the back of your awesome vintage car, etc. Doing this will not only reduce the amount of money you could spend on getting all of these little details made, but it can also reduce the amount of non-recyclable materials that will just be thrown away later. BE CREATIVE!

For Rosalie (Rose), an interior designer with flair, and Papillon (Pap), having a dramatic vintage inspired wedding was a no-brainer. Rose's short veil with white pleated tulle flower headpiece set the stage for the classic church wedding with a twist of drama. Her dress was, of course, from non-other than Olive and it fit her style and personality perfectly. Rose added a little personal touch to her strapless A-line silhouette with a beautiful brocade fabric, an elegant pearl brooch, and a ruffle of tulle at the hem. As you can see from the pictures below, the evening was extraordinary.

Rose exemplifies the Olive bride - a woman not afraid of her personal style and outstanding personality.

Picking the Perfect Silhouette

One of the most important moments for every bride is when she finds THE dress. There are so many details to consider. The options really are endless. You may have been dreaming of a mermaid style with a sweetheart neckline since you were a little girl, but does this silhouette work for your figure? This is your day and in order for you to really look and feel beautiful picking the best dress for your body is key. The great thing is that Olive offers so many different silhouettes for both you and your bridesmaids. Once you know what you’re looking for, making the decision is easy! Here are some tips for picking the perfect silhouette along with a chart of some of Olive’s offerings.

First, grab a measuring tape. Measure your bust - biggest measurement around your chest. Now measure your waist - the smallest measurement around your waist area. Now your hips - the fullest part of the hip area; this is almost always over the butt. Write all of these measurements down and then read the following.

Hourglass Body Type - your bust and hips are approximately the same measurement (within an inch or two) and your waist is smaller than either of these by at least a four inches. You are in luck! Most styles flatter your classic figure. A Mermaid style however would really show off your curves!

Pear Body Type - your hips are larger than your bust. This is a very common body type. You want to avoid dresses that hide your waist. An a-line dress is the most flattering for you because it gives you a balanced appearance of an hourglass figure. It even works with an upside down pear, which is when your bust is larger than your hips.
Apple or Athletic - all your measurements are similar. To create the appearance of a waist and a hourglass figure you’ll want to select dresses with gathers or other details on the hips and bust. This will highlight those areas and give you a softer more feminine shape.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and here at Olive we are promoting awareness and celebrating the lives of those who have come away scarred, but always triumphant. So many women have been affected by breast cancer; statistics show that one in eight women will get breast cancer in her lifetime. We all know eight women that we love and can’t imagine our lives without. Please perform your self breast exams each and every month. Spread this awareness and education to women you love; you could, indeed, save their life.

One in eight women or 12.6% of all women will get breast cancer in her lifetime.

Breast cancer risk increases with age and every woman is at risk.

Every 13 minutes a woman dies of breast cancer.

Seventy-seven percent of women with breast cancer are over 50.

Most shockingly and heartbreaking, breast cancer will touch the lives of 40,610 women and men in 2009, according to the American Cancer Society.

Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women.

Breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women.

It is the second most common cause of cancer death in Caucasian, African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women.

The story of the little black dress.

Every woman has a secret weapon in their fashion arsenal - the little black dress. Long considered an essential for every woman’s wardrobe, the LBD was created by none other than Coco Chanel. In 1926, Chanel’s simple and chic black, calf length dress graced the pages of Vogue. The magazine called it Chanel’s Ford”.

Before Chanel, black was only worn by widowers. It was considered distasteful, for black dresses to be worn at celebratory social gatherings. With all the deaths claimed by World War I and the Spanish Influenza, black dresses became more commonplace. With the Great Depression, black dresses became a sign of economic hardships. But in the 1950s, Dior revitalized the little black dress. By the 60s, the LBD was firmly planted on a pedestal with no hint or whisper of ever stepping down. The dress no longer held the sorrowful significance of its dark past. During 70s, 80s and 90s, the little black dress continued its reign.

As sure of its appeal today as Chanel was eighty years ago, the Little Black Dress is a timeless classic. Many designers today are working with richer, textural fabrics like velvet and lace – breathing new life into this forever fashionable tradition.
